Zoning Enforcement
Zoning plays a vital roll for communities in the
enforcement of their Comprehensive plan, zoning
codes for uses/zoning districts, setback, types of
construction and nuisance complaints. This service
is provided as part of the building permit process
if requested. With enforcement of the zoning code,
it becomes part of the plan review process and
enforcement program. Such areas may include:
New
Construction
1.
Verify proper use with the district and the
comprehensive plan.
2. Verify setbacks and construction type for the
district.
3. Landscaping, lighting requirements, parking,
etc.
4. Meetings with planning and zoning and city
council/county board for approval.
Nuisance complaints
1.
Written complaint forms are filled out with
required information for enforcement of the zoning
codes.
2. Communication with the owners as to where the
violation is taking place, this will be done person
to person communication and then a letter or the
opposite.
3. Completion of the corrections needed or
additional legal requirements.
Zoning enforcement should be looked at and used as
a tool to protect the public health, safety and
general welfare of the community and its people
through the establishments of minimum regulations
in regards to location, erection, construction,
alteration and use of structures and
land.
