Rental Housing Inspection
A rental housing program will assist the owner and
the tenant of problems that are occurring in the
building and housing units. This program, when
working with the owner and lessee provides a way to
maintain a quality of life and a maintained
structure which shows well for the community. An
inspection can consist of the following:
1. Inspections can be set on a one, two or three
year program.
2. The inspection consists of notification to the
owner and tenant as to when the inspection would
take place. Generally the tenant can leave a list
of items they wish to be inspected during the
inspection process.
3. The building would also be inspected for such
items as broken windows, safe decks, rot, poor
sidewalks, etc.
4. A list of corrections (if any) would be created
and discussed with the owner. A time frame would be
created for those corrections. Generally, if it is
a large item, for instance, window replacement, a
longer time frame would be needed.
5. A re-inspection would be required after all of
the corrections are completed.
6. Once the program is started, each inspection
should be less as far as corrections.
The housing code is a tool for providing a quality
of life for the tenant and maintaining a quality
rental building for the community.
